Only one model year the Corvette had the famous 'Split Window'. Despite of that the 'Split Window' got famous and now it will be used on the C7. We saw a preview of the car in the movie Transformers. 'That won't be the new Corvette' GM's chief design Ed Welburn said, 'but you can count on it that the Split Window will be used on the new model'. Because of new techniques like rear view camera's and systems warning for cars hidden in a blind spot the problem of the poor sight will be solved.

Corvette C7 split window

The first Corvette 'Split Window' was built in 1963. Because there were a lot of teammembers against this concept the rear window was changed in 1964. Nevertheless the 'Split Window' has been very popular. Because of new political demands on fuel consumption, the Corvette C7 won't be bigger and stronger than the C6. The C7 will be lighter and will get special tires in order to reduce fuel consumption. The engine will get direct fuel injection and Variable Valve Timing. The electrical power steering will have to contribute to reducing fuel consumption. 'Only when these measures won't help in reducing fuel consumption we will consider hybrid drive' Tom Stephen says. He is GM's chief of product development. 'It looks like we won't need that help'.

Corvette enthusiasts won't have to be afraid that the American Spirit of the Corvette will disappear. The C7 will get a V8 and a rear wheel drive.

We are very curious and can hardly wait till the C7 will be in production.

In 1962 Chevrolet presented the second generation Corvette, the Corvette Stingray C2. It got a new look with a longer nose and the characteristic headlight as seen on the 1959 Chevrolet Stingray racer. GM-design boss Bill Mitchell and his assistent Larry Shinoda designed the car.

Like its predecessor the bodywork is made out of glass fibre to save weight. Special for this car is the independent suspension. Spectacular is the in 1966 released 427-edition with a 6999 cc V8 engine which produces 425 hp. It accelerates in about 5 seconds to 70 mph and its topspeed is 153 mph. Famous is the 'split-window'. The production of the C2 ended in 1968 with the introduction of the C3. By then 117,964 C2's were produced.
